Day 1: Sesame Chicken

Good Morning Pre-packaged Pals!

Before I dive into the critique of my meal I think it is necessary to break down what I am rating these meals on. Although it is all subjective there will be a few questions I ask myself with every post:

  • How does it smell?
  • Does it taste like what it claims to be?
  • Is it soggy?
  • How many prep steps are there?
  • Is this food visually appealing?
  • Would I buy it again?

I think that really covers the basis of what constitutes at good Lean Cuisine. If you have any other suggestions or concerns please share them with me in the comments section. At the end of each post I will be giving the meals a rating from 1-5. 1 being dog food and 5 being as good as the real thing.

LETS GET COOKIN'.

So today I went with "Sesame Chicken" a simple, yet flavorful option that honestly sounded pretty hard to F-up. While examining the box I noticed that the amount of prep-steps was a little more work than I was assuming i'd have to do for a meal that came out of a cardboard box. 2 Different steps?! Who do they think I am?!

"Will it be worth all this work?" I wondered. Well, i'll tell you what - I was pleasantly surprised. It smelled delicious. Despite the fact I was already starving, had somebody else been making this in the office it would have made me hungry. I took it out and while letting it stand for the suggested minute noticed it looked the appropriate consistency for noodles in sauce. Not too soupy, not too dry.

To be honest, the packaging was dead on for what Chinese food usually comes in and visually it caused me no concerns. My only complain would be the lack of chopsticks because that would have really taken the whole experience up a notch. I have nothing but high praises for this meal. The chicken was way more trustworthy than your local take out place and I didn't wonder once if it was actually a missing neighborhood pet. The flavor was bold and delicious. The veggies left a little to be desired but I did have a couple great, crisp green beans.

I am giving Sesame Chicken a 4.5 out of 5. I was nothing short of satisfied but this is subject to change as I become more well versed in the variety of flavors.

Andy B.  obviously doesn't know the only things I can find in my pantry at home are crunchy peanut butter and disappointment.
