Day 6: Rachero Braised Beef
Hey Freezer Section Friends,
I'm a simple woman, with simple interests. The newest of which is binge watching the 2006 gem of a series "Friday Night Lights" on Netflix. In between Googling facts about the actor who plays Matt Saracen I though, "what's a meal that would make Coach Taylor, the undisputed spirit guide of my favorite fictional sports team, proud?" The Answer? Frozen Beef. Today on the blog it's clear eyes, full hearts, Rachero Braised Beef!
So this looks very intimidating before the preparation has started. Not unlike prison food. However, upon first whiff it smells delicious! The prep steps are nothing out of the ordinary. It was still frozen when I went to stir it which I fundamentally refuse to get used to. I'm not sure why the idea of frozen beef is so much more uncomfortable than frozen chicken but it is and i'm worried.
The sweet potatoes have a smokey flavor which is pretty delicious and make me feel like i'm in a Texas Roadhouse. I'm a big fan and need more of these in my life. Much like the classic mashed potatoes that accompanied the "Baked Chicken" I could eat a bucket of these bad boys. I would compare the beef to what comes in canned beef stew but it tastes good. The sauce has a little kick to it but I'd probably tell you milk is kind of spicy sometimes so I don't think i'm the best judge of this criteria. However I can confidently say there was too much sauce. I'm not sure if drowning the beef was some sort of marinating tactic but you could fill a kiddie pool with the left over sauce.
All in all, yes I would eat this again despite it being completely out of my comfort zone. Good job, Lean Cuisine!
