Day 9: Orange Chicken

Hiya Lean Cuisine Lunatics,

If i'm being totally honest I had never heard of Orange Chicken until Panda Express moved into the shopping center by my high school. It instantly became one of my "go-tos" before lacrosse games  and now that i think of it, it is an actual miracle I never puked while running up and down a field immediately after eating cheap Chinese food. So I was wondering, "how great would it be if I could have that same quality experience from the comfort of my own microwave?!" Today on the blog we make Orange Chicken.

I had very high hopes for Orange Chicken since Sesame Chicken, another Lean Cuisine interpretation of Chinese food, is one of my personal favorites. When I took it out of the box it didn't just have your run of the mill film. This film reassured you what you are about to eat is "marketplace fresh". It was a nice touch. I felt fancy; which doesn't sound possible since it's a $3.00 boxed meal but like, my kitchen is also my bedroom so it doesn't take much. The prep-steps weren't too involved, no stirring, a personal win. It smelled delicious while cooking, but would the flavor be able to match it??

I am pleased to say the flavor was a solid B+! The sauce did a weird coagulated thing near the edge of the plastic dish which I didn't like but it was tasty and had the spicy, sweet flavor you look for in Orange Chicken. The rice was a nice change from the noodles that are so often a lean cuisine side, however when mixed with the sauce it became a bit water logged and wasn't really worth trying to eat once all the chicken was gone. I didn't see a single weird, sliced almond the packaged prominently touted and that didn't really bother me but I could see how you could be disappointed about that if you're nuts about nuts. It wasn't quite Sesame Chicken, but I was pleased. I would buy thing again and recommend it to friends.

Orange Chicken: 4 out of 5 stars
